Introducing the 2012 Wideopenmag downhill team
With a new year comes a totally fresh team with new bikes, new sponsors and new riders. We’ll be continuing to attack the UK National downhill and 4X Series’ but will also be stepping up to the World Cup circuit to take Wideopenmag to the very top of the game.
It’s a huge step up for Wideopenmag and we’re super excited to graduate everything we do to World Cup level.
Leading the charge is our all new elite World Cup downhill rider Rich Thomas. Rich will race the full British National Series, South Africa and Euro World Cups, World Champs and select DH and enduro events including the Macavalanche and Mega Avalanche.
Rich will be joined by UK young gun and South West Champ Jay Williamson who will race the DH Nationals, National Champs and select other downhill events.
The team will be supported by expert mechanic and wheel builder Chaz Curry who will make sure the guy's bikes and kit are running sweet at all times.
2012 will be our first ever year with a World Cup rider and feels like a natural step forward for the team and the magazine. Wideopenmag has always aimed to be at the very core of mountain biking and Rich will be our man on the scene as we move that up a level – look out for him all year at the races, in the magazine and with a bit of luck on the podiums! Jay is stacked with talent and had a great year in 2011 – we’re excited about working with him this year and helping him step up to Expert.
Powering the race campaign is a selection of what we believe to be a dream line up of companies – with every one being a brand that Wideopenmag have previously worked with and have genuinely hand picked as our first choice line up.
The riders will be powered by Nukeproof bikes, Five Ten Shoes, Action Cameras wearable cams, Continental Tyres, Unior Tools, Fenwicks Bike Cleaners and Fox Europe clothing and protection.
