Haldon Freeride trail developments

Everything maybe getting very frosty and damn cold, but this has not stopped progress up on the Haldon. The building at Haldon is shifting into a new gear. They have started adding some new shore to the Freeride Trail. All the building from here on in will be constructed with Western Red Cedar, split by hand using traditional methods wherever possible. Splitting the timber rather than sawing it into planks provides an excellent grippy surface, not to mention looking great! Western red is also inherently rot resistant, so it should last a good length of time. The new section of shore continues on the from the skinny section after the Helter skelter. It has been re-shaped so the steep roller off of the end of the skinnys is now a much smoother transition.The line then continues on for about 5m or so then enters the new newest feature, a tight right hand bermed corner, which when finished should provide an exhilarating ride for sure. They have also begun the process of re-decking the existing bits of shore with the split timber so that we can get rid of all the chicken wire. So you might find a few trail features closed off here and there, please be patient, they wont stay shut for long and they are only closed for your safety! The 'Shore' building is about to enter an entirely new faze in fact. We have a pretty sizeable delivery of Western Red on order that will be arriving at Haldon in the very near future. So with no more worries about where the wood is coming from for a while we can just get on and build, so you can expect to see many new delights appearing over the next few months. Over the last few months the local trail builders with the help of the Forestry Commission have been putting a great deal of work into altering the berm section on the Red Run. Almost every twist and turn has been either shifted, tweaked, or completely rebuilt. The whole section is now designed to maximise rider 'flow' helping to minimise impact and engineered specifically not to collect water so (hopefully) it will remain rideable in all conditions throughout the winter.
