Trixter Xdream World Championships 2011
On the 28th/29th May, the 3rd round of the Schwalbe British and European 4X Series is coming to Bryn Bettws, Afan, here in the UK. Europe's top 4X riders will be battling it out on the track all weekend, trying to seal the win and collect valuable points towards their 2011 overall campaigns.
In addition to the 4X racing, a selection of pro riders, from different cycling disciplines, will be competing against each other to be crowned 2011 Trixter Xdream World Champion, on Saturday 28th May at 7.30pm.
There will be four Trixter Xdream bikes available all weekend for anyone to try; the bikes are the top of the line in indoor training, used by current World Mountain Biking Champion, Tracy Moseley and former World BMX Champion, Scott Beaumont. They simulate the experience of riding outdoors with an LCD screen displaying virtual mountain biking trails across different terrains, complete with computer or, human controlled opponents and onscreen avatar. The sophisticated sensors embedded in the pedals, saddle, real feel gears and handlebars control the rider on screen right down to which foot is on the down stroke and how you shift your weight to round corners. The patented laterally moving handlebars offer an upper body and core workout as well as precision handling.
The four Xdreams will be networked together throughout the weekend to allow both pro riders and visitors alike to compete and race against each other, and their friends and family, in Multiplayer Mode. The Ghost Racing mode allows you to race against your ultimate competitor – YOU, and encourages you to push yourself even harder. The Xdream can also be used with a wireless heart rate monitor to record your cardio workout as you enjoy the ride.
Once you’ve tried out the bikes for yourself, make sure to head to the bar area in Bryn Bettws Lodge on Saturday night, 28th May. From 7.30pm the Trixter Xdream Indoor World Championship 2011 event will see pro riders competing in heats and semi-finals before the final showdown to win an X-Bike (Trixter's indoor training bike, worth £1,249). Riders from all cycling disciplines (4X, BMX, Downhill, Road and Track) have been invited in order to ensure a well balanced cycling event.
The competitive nature of cyclists from any discipline makes for an evening of intense, merciless and animated racing…..oh and the odd bead of sweat of course! Be sure to remember your own lap times to see if you could keep up with the pros.
Sky Sports will be filming the whole weekend and will be featuring the Trixter Championships in an upcoming thirty minute program on Britain’s most watched sports channel.
South African Greg Minnaar, the 3 time Downhill World Cup Champion, was crowned the inaugural Xdream Indoor Mountain Bike World Champion at Bike Radar Live 2009. Minnaar beat off stiff competition from some of the world’s finest riders including Steve Peat, Gee Atherton and former 1hr endurance world record holder, Graham Obree. The 1,541 meter Xdream Parklands course had a gradual 54 meter ascent with a fast downhill section to finish.
Minnaar said "I knew Gee and Marc Beaumont would be tough competition but I knew if I could get to the top of the hill in the lead I could close it out. It was just great fun and such a great buzz with the crowd so close to the action."
Atherton, who had the least amount of practice and course time, said "It was great fun and really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to getting my revenge on Greg." Bring it on!
