CRC/Nukeproof Halo BDS RD2 Race Report
The second round of the Halo British Downhill Series took place at Moelfre, North Wales, over the weekend where Team ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof riders Matti Lehikoinen and Joe Smith finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Here's team Manager Nigel Page with a report from the weekend's sun-drenched race:
The Halo BDS round two at Moelfre gave us a fantastic race this past weekend. With the super-fast course and North Wales blessing us with fine weather, both the track and the racing were at their best.
Again, the Elite Men's field was like a mini World Cup with everyone getting on their A-game with just two weeks away from the World Cup in South Africa. Team ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof riders kept up with their podium-winning ways too. Matti Lehikoinen and Joe Smith rode fantastically and put in blistering runs placing fourth and fifth, respectively, showing they have the pace of the fastest riders in the world.
I could only manage a second place in the Masters. Newcomer to the category Jim Hughes took the win on his home track so well done to him.
The Nukeproof Scalps worked flawlessly once again on a different style of track with a few suspension settings dialed, and dry tyres on. Thanks to our team mechanics Carl, Cord and Dave Garland back with us for Saturday's practice for keeping the bikes running perfectly all weekend.
It was great to see Dan Atherton back on a bike and racing after his horrific injury last year. Going this fast already was pretty inspirational.
Matt Simmonds – who broke his kneecap during last weekend's Irish NPS race at Rostrevor – made it down to watch the race on Sunday, and gave the team some encouragement. Both Matt and Lewis Buchannan (currently on the sidelines with injury) are looking forward to being back racing for round three of the Halo BDS in Glencoe, Scotland, at the end of May.
We are off to South Africa next Monday for the first round of the UCI World Cup, so wish us luck and let the World Cup campaign begin.
