Rated as one of the best XC challenge rides in the country by The Indian Fire Trail blog. Can your legs take the on the challenge that this mega loop from Ingram presents? Set in the heart of the Breamish Valley the route represents one of the best single day loops you can do in the Cheviots.  You will start off with gentle climbs and a few fast descents before getting down to business. Gruellingly sharp climbs will have you wondering if you can get up them without stopping; what will give up first, your legs or your traction? Off-piste riding will have you battling through rough grass that can sap your legs. Fast downhills are to be handled with care.  We'll stick out plenty of fluids and snacks to help you along.

Just so we mention this up front: this is a hard ride!  It's an exposed route on testing terrain and a real acheivement to make it round.

Don’t worry, it isn’t all pain and no gain. The original Breamish Behemoth route we had planned was like some kind of torture ride so we have factored in some rest sections where your legs can have a little recuperation before getting back down to business. You have a meaty climb just after visiting here so it’s well worth taking your time to gather your thoughts before hitting the high fells.

Another joyous point of note with this event is that there are some significantly long down hill sections and during our trial run we frequently topped 40mph and that should give you an idea of how quick you can go. Not only that but there are one or two places which are a bit more technical and require some skill and thought. This ride is committing and you’ll be open to the wild elements of Northumberland whilst visiting some of the really remote landscape. We spotted some incredibly rare wildlife and in particular if you’re a bird fan you should keep your eyes open.

As usual these events can only take place with the help of all the people effected. As such we are dependant upon many land owners, farmers, shooting clubs, private companies, Forestry Commission, The National Park and local community groups to make it happen. Everyone has been incredibly helpful and welcoming and we are confident you will be pleased with what we have put together.

Starting and finishing at Ingram Village Hall there will be food and drinks available to buy at the local cafe as well as free overnight camping on the field adjacent. For those of you that have been to the Ingram show we will be using the same field. The start goes from here and you’re out into another High Fell Events adventure.  There is also free camping on offer the night before should you be coming from further afield.

What is the big idea with this event? This is a challenge event and not competitive. It's not a race!  You ride at your own pace and the idea is to complete and not compete. We’re looking to get as many people out and about in this amazing environment. The Cheviots are big hills and a mountain bikers dream. The local bikers know this to be true and we’re looking to bring this adventurous open landscape to as many people as possible. 40 miles over this terrain will be a test, have no doubts about it, but this is a distance we think is accessible by most people when combined with the terrain on offer.
