Dropped in on my way through on an XC ride in the area. I hadn't been there for a while, but its no where near challenging as it used to be. The trails here are smooth, and not at all technically challenging.

The blacks here are not blacks....red....at a push and thats being optimistic.

People do go on about the gradings of these tracks....the problem is, everyone thinks that they can ride a bike, because they can ride one up the road. I can ski, but just because I can ski, I don't try to ski all the black runs when I go, because I know I'll get hurt because I'm only an average skier....The tracks here are very easy if you can ride a bike well, but they are fast, and if you run out of talent, you WILL hurt yourself.

On the weekend it is PACKED, which makes it difficult to ride the course at any pace, and people there do seem to get a bit grumpy when you try to pick your way through.

So if you want to go and ride the courses fast there....go on a Monday when the Cafe is shut as its normally pretty empty. The cafe is pretty cool, but the food is pretty average, can take ages, and is expensive. Personally, I think the cafe at the the fishery is just as good, if not better. The coffee there is amazing and the chap who runs it is very bike friendly and welcoming.

The bike shop is cool, but again, expensive.

I'll try to be positive....its a big bmx course, with loads of easy jumps to feed your ego into thinking you're awesome on a bike and make you feel epic in a nice forest.

Its a good place to ride and train on in the winter as the trail drains really well. Other than that.....there's loads of better places to ride.

There are loads better natural more challenging places not a million miles away from this area to ride....Llangollen, Longmynd, Eastridge, Hopton, Marin, Penmachno, to name a few for starters.

Bottom line. If you are a novice, or a weekender, with a low standard of fitness, then this will challenge you physically and you will find the trails fun and hard. It really is a great place for families.

If you can ride a bike well.....don't waste your time unless you are purely going there to burn your lungs in the winter.....it is good for that.

To be respected

Review:
Feel having read some reviews on here, the black run is getting some hard press; especially in regard to its grading. I rode this with my brother on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed the black run. There are some sections with rock steps which you need a degree of confidence to ride through. Experienced riders will have problem with these but that doesn't mean they're not of black trail difficulty. I too have ridden trail centre across the UK and think black is a fair measure for this trail. People have to remember that the black grading reflects the amount and intensity of the climbing and Llandegla certainly is testing and to be respected. You need a good degree of fitness to ride the whole of this and not get off!!! I love the trail centre as well. Yes, the braking grooves are starting to appear but this reflects it's popularity.

If these "experts" really wanted to ride hardcore stuff, they wouldn't have come here. A quick view on YouTube shows anyone that this isn't ball-breaking stuff. Some people just want to big themselves up and sound like some kind of expert. I think they're good fun trails. The uphill at the start is doable - good keep fit stuff and the downhill is OK for people of moderate ability. Nothing too technical, but you have to keep your wits about you and you can vary your speed to match your ability or lack of it. If you're not that confident, I'd suggest you come midweek, it almost feels like you have the place to yourself at times and you can take your time and get a feel for it. Once your confidence gets a bit better, there's always the Black...

some great bits, well worth a visit

Review:
Went today after a 2yr gap and found a lot of trees have been felled which is a shame as it kind of ruins the atmposphere in places. Considering this is a black route it is nowhere near as challenging as other trails around the country. There are no parts where your bottle is tested as with many other venues. Some parts are very fast and flowing and there are many opportunities for getting air so it is still good but the second half of the route loses some of the flow. I personally prefer the fast flowing nature of the Blue route at this venue and would choose to do that combined with the red rather than the black. Don't forget the freeride area too at the end, short but worth a run or two!
