Good but rough around the edges.

Some really good section particularly the gully with the wall rides. Way marking a little hit and miss and very muddy in places. Should be a lot better in summer I would have thought.

I've been riding in gisburn forest since i was about 5 as its only half an hour from my house, so when I found out they were vamping it up i was naturally excited. when i heard that it would be home to some of the best singletrack riding in the UK I was pretty much so excited i bought a new xc bike! So when I arrived i may have had massive expectations, which unfortunatley it did not quite meet. The main problem was the condition of the trail, general winter weather and a lot of riders (the car park, pub car park and roads around both were jammed) had pretty much cut up half of the singletrack sections. I felt there was still a little too much downhill fireroad, do I really want to climb up a hill just to cruise back down? Having said that some of the singletrack was beautiful, and the gully section is awesome fun! however they should put up some dh trail eticette notices, on my blast down the gully one group of riders were stood on a corner, thankfully they moved, then another group were just on the trail, saw me coming then got on their bikes and started to ride slowly, nearly causing a crash - pretty dangerous. Although there is no facility at the trail head this is more than made up for by the excellent pub/cafe just up the road. overall a very good trail centre, looking forward to riding it in the spring.

1st visit to gisburn had it recommended and was not disapointed. parked at cocklet car park or should i say on road near it cos it wa full this may require expanding as the popularity of this place is sure to grow,a bog would be good too. A varied ride with most climbing done on fire road but desending done on twisting single track with some superb berms to test your nerve when i visited low in berms was muddy and led to a few moments which added to excitement and meant aimin higher thru corners.

all in all a great place to visit we also had nice fish n chips in settle after.

think it will be good place in summer to camp near and have day there then loads of more natural routes nearby in hawes and have a top weekend with varied riding.

cant wait to visit again am lucky only a hour away

I only went to Gisburn Forest because it was horizontal rain weather and I thought the forest might offer shelter but I was in for an unexpected treat. There's a lot of work gone into this (it's not quite finished yet but that doesn't spoil the enjoyment) - the blurb says about 18km for the red and 9km for purple(?) route. The whole thing was a cracker with the uphills not seeming tedious, it uses the contours well and the downhills not wasting the gained height. The highlight for me was without doubt the second black section - it is not very difficult technically but fast committed almost wall-of-death sections where it could go horribly wrong. Something of everything but none of it boring except the first section out of the car park at Cocklet. The fire-road sections are kept short and broken up by forays of single-track through the trees. As previous reviewers have noted, even the merged section back to the car-park (graded blue) is sweeping single-track with enough to test yourself, or in my case a nearby tree.
