Summary:
Worst trail in Wales

Review:
Mainly boring fire roads. Trails are worn out and overgrown. Waste of a journey. Go and ride the Raven Trail near-by. AVOID!

Summary:
Very flowy and fun

Review:
It's got big long hills but is very worth it. The downhills are very flowy and fast and you can get big air so were knee pads are a good idea. It's good for your first red route because everything is rollable but if you are advanced you can go for it and fly off the jumps

Harsh and artificial

After doing everything Afan and Cwmcarn has to offer I was psyched to ride this trail. After taking 2 hours to get around it I was a bit disappointed. It felt like 95% of the time I was climbing steep fireroads. There are about 4 singletrack descents, and they are steep with endless rollers (what is it with Rowan Sorrell and rollers?). Considering there is 1071m of rather dull climbing to get through, the descents are over in the blink of an eye and it just didn't feel like a good payback. They are like BMX tracks on steroids and rather contrived. In constrast, Afan's descents still retain a good 'natural' element, despite being a trail centre. If this was an uplift, fair enough but I felt that for all that climbing, more could of been made of the altitude. Some nice swooping, rooty, rocky trails without the brash 'downhill' gradients would have been a better deal. I'm no novice but I would recommend the green/blue Derwen trails over this - less climbing, longer descending.

Quality! A must ride destination!

Review:
The single track descents of this trail have been thought out very well indeed. If your at an intermediate level its all ride able and enjoyable but the better your skill level the more you will enjoy it and ride the trail to the full. Massive berms, switch backs, step ups and table tops combined with a smooth flowing corners make this place one of the best out there. The downhill sections when the get going properly aren’t fragmented into climbs and downhill sections, it tends to be one good blast down to the bottom followed by a climb to the next quality descent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy2B4XNkF4g

Summary:
Brilliant even in the freezing snow

Review:
One of the best trails I've ridden. By chance my wife and I hired nearby cottage for Xmas with our parents. As I brought my bike (it is Wales after all) I decided to try this route out. I rode it on Boxing Day 2009 in freezing conditions. Despite the ice I thought it was fantastic. Lots of uphill slogs (esp on snow) but they are less painful than they might be as they are mainly fire roads. The uphill pain is followed by some great winding single track though the forest (less icy) and swooping rollercoasting downhill sections with nice doubles, tables and berms. Not a single problem with sign posting at all - it's actually very clear. I'll certainly be going back to try it out in summer 2010!
