A rode as relative novice on a hard tail.... What great fun, downhills had me whooping in delight and I found the track mentally and physically demanding but an awful lot of fun. Found the final third after badgers rise very tough going as I did this after the blue and I'm not the fittest but still will definetely be going back

This is a local trail for me so I find I can get up ther every often. The black isn't anywhere near as fast or technical as CYB as others have said, and yes the first climb may seem a little excessive for what lies ahead by way of the black route.

However, I ride this route for fitness and fun and in that regard it supplies both very well. The long climb can challenge your fitness if you try it in higher gears and then the red/black takes you down some very good tracks where you can push 30 if you really want to.

I'm not the best of riders (in my own opinion) and own a modest hardtail Specialized and albeit a little bumpy in places, the trail is more than doable on this type of bike.

As for the facilities, I can't comprehend how people manage to give it bad press. Parking is £3.50, very reasonable, that is not excessive in today's world. As for the cafe, I have always found staff very pleasant with a smile for every customer and I go here very often.

The food is much better than many pubs and again, how can it be justified a rip off? Decent size bacon and egg butty for a few quid, fantastic coffee, this isnt a greasy spoon with awful food, it really does good food and I for one look forward to the cafe after a ride.

People travel from far and wide to try Llandegla and whilst it doesn't offer as much of a ride as the Marin trail for instance, this place does what it does very well and is always busy. I'd say that's testament to how good it is.

Black run is fast and fun but definately short of the mark to be black. Its hoplessly let down by miles of boring fireroad climbs either side of it.

Whoever invented the term "black run" must be feelin' a bit miffed at this place. O.K, it's a great trail for families and novices, but NO WAY COULD ANY SECTION OF THIS BE DEEMED "BLACK" If you want a good ride here, go during the week when it's quiet, and take a packed lunch cos the cafe is a rip-off. Don't bother going if it looks like snow, cos they close the place if there's more than a light-dusting.Be prepared to have a giggle at the divvies who take £5k bikes there and wear head to toe armour. It aint Morzine!

Slight change to review after a visit yesterday. They wanted £3.50 to park there! The girls in the cafe who served me had faces on them like murder when I asked for sevice, and interrupted their conversation on ill-fitting t-shirts. Riding the trail had me wondering why all the flat/uphill sections are immaculately maintained, while the fast/downhill sections are wearing away badly. There are sections of the trail closed off(the website does hint at this, but it also advertises events over a year old, so not sure how up to date they are) This is becoming not a mountain bikers venue, but a place for families to experience mountain biking. Never going there again.
