Plans Progress for Mountain Bike Trails in Tipperary Wood

Plans are progressing for a new mountain bike jump trails, pump track and walking trail through Tipperary Wood in County Down, Northern Ireland.

This compact area of woodland, located only half a mile from Newcastle's Central Promenade, has long been popular with local riders who have welcomed plans to formalise these local trail facilities.

Architrail, who have previously worked on the mountain bike trails in Davagh Forest (pictured above), Blessingbourne and Dungannon, have drafted the initial trail design for Tipperary Wood which will also serve as a vital walking link between Newcastle town centre and a number of surrounding housing areas.

The trails will converge with the Newcastle Way, an existing long distance walking route linking Newcastle and Tollymore Forest Park, and will add to the extensive walking network within the wider Mournes region.

Outdoor Recreation NI is leading on this project with the initial design funded by Down District Council. A funding application for the development of these trails is currently being assessed by the 'Space and Place' Big Lottery Fund.
