First Look: On One Introduces the Codeine 275
17 September 2015 | By billy1979It's finally here! 3 long years of blood sweat and tears, designed in Sheffield, proven in the Yorkshire hills. A product of the epic riding we find on our doorstep.
"Enduro Race Sled" or "Quiver Killer", call it what you like, this is a true all mountain rig built for whatever you can throw at it.
Whether you're racing Enduro, smashing out shuttle laps, riding highland epics or out for a blast at your local trails the Codeine has got it covered – with style!
Some people may call it an Enduro bike, we would call it a bike for riding!
DEVELOPMENT STORY
So let's wind back the clock to three years ago when the codeine 27.5 first hit the drawing board.
At this point we were still hard at work on the Codeine 29, we all agreed that 29 inch wheels were the way forward for All mountain, and dare I say it "Enduro" riding, however there was a new wheel size on the block and it was causing too much of a stir for us to ignore.
We needed to try it and make up our own minds. We went to the workshop and started on the first prototype, weeks later we had our first batch of test mules to ride and that's exactly what we did. The test team were divided and it was clear to us all that both were different beats - but the pros and cons of both wheel sizes were clear to us all.
"Compromise wasn't an option"
So - we made the tough decision early on that we were going to be late to the 650b party; compromise wasn't an option, we wanted this bike to be the best it could be and the brief was simple, build a bike for everything, the go to bike in everyone's stable.
"The Codeine 27.5 has been through multiple revisions"
The Codeine 27.5 has been through multiple revisions before arriving at where we are today. At each stage our focus was rider testing; revise, ride, revise, ride again, revise, ride some more, repeat.
The result of all our hard work is something we can all be proud of, a bike that defines the all-mountain bike genre. Our own custom butted, hand welded, 7005 T7 heat treated tubeset, paired with some very special numbers; 65.5° Head Angle, 15mm BB drop, 430mm chainstay and super long reach. A bike that's gagging to be thrashed.
