Wetter Is Better for Red Bull Rampage Course Build

23 September 2014  |

Competitors tout the benefits of rain after a shower knocks some of the dust off the Rampage venue.

In most mountain bike communities, 'rain' is a dirty word, but in the exclusive world of Red Bull Rampage competitors, rain can be a glorious thing - still dirty, just in a good way.

On Saturday afternoon one of southern Utah’s infamous sudden storms rolled over the Rampage course and sent build teams packing - the six-mile dirt road into the venue becomes impassable with too much moisture — but when the sun came out on Sunday the diggers were ecstatic.

“Usually you’re working with super dry, dusty conditions, where the dirt’s just sloughing away,” says Kyle Norbraten in the video above. “Now that we have the moisture you can pack it a lot harder… You can mold it. It hardens up real nice once it dries.”
