New Indoor Bike Park to open in Sheffield

8 February 2017  |

Sheffield could be set to be become home to Britain’s first indoor mountain bike park, taking inspiration from the likes of Ray’s Bike Park in the USA.

Sheffield Bike Park is a non-profit social enterprise company founded to provide all-weather facilities for the practice and promotion of non-traditional cycle sports.

The driving force behind the project, George French described his plans for the indoor park in his own words "A big cavernous space full to the rafters with fun stuff to ride silly bikes on. A place where you could learn skills, get even fitter, meet friends, have a laugh, take a break in a cafe and not worry about weather or access rights or walkers or cars or horses or landowners."

Sheffield Bike Park has taken inspiration from the likes of Ray’s indoor Bike Park in the USA and will be a mainly wooden, multi-level indoor bike park to be used for Mountain Bikes and BMXs.

Having brought together various interested parties they now have a core team of three, with others ready to help as we progress. A business model and viable plan is in place and they currently negotiating a lease on a suitable ex-industrial building in Sheffield.

As soon as this is agreed, they will be launching a crowd-funding campaign to raise more money to equip the building and increase awareness of the project.

In the mean time, keep up with all that’s going on through their Instagram or website.
